How to make the best CrockPot meatloaf - This simple and easy slow cooker recipe makes a delicious and healthy dinner with a combination of ground beef and turkey and a packet of onion soup mix.
Today is Old Grandma's birthday. I wanted to write a post all about some fabulous recipe that she makes that I make now, but I couldn't think of anything.
When Grandma was a young woman, she cooked in restaurants.
For most of her life, Grandma made everything from scratch. Everything.
I remember very clearly the year that Grandma first started buying frozen pies. I was sad, but I wouldn't have dreamed telling Grandma that I wanted a homemade pie.
Old Grandma turns 84 today. She doesn't do much cooking at all these days. She heats frozen and ready-made foods. She eats from styrofoam plates and uses paper napkins. The apple butter on Grandma's table came from the grocery store. The rotisserie chicken, the bread, the jam, the pancakes, everything comes from the grocery store or the frozen food truck.
One thing Grandma still makes is vegetable soup, but I haven't convinced her to give me the recipe.Sorry.
Anyway, this recipe has absolutely nothing to do with Old Grandma or her birthday, but I do remember my mom making meatloaf a lot when I was a kid.
I couldn't think of a recipe that did remind me of Old Grandma, but I wanted to mention that it's her birthday. Because she's amazing, even if she doesn't cook much any more.

I never thought of doing meatloaf in the crock pot! Just one question. How does the fat render out? Should I put it on a rack or something so my meat isn't swimming in grease?

Joe used chopped steak, and there was no fat in the bottom of the crockpot. I guess it would depend on what kind of ground meat you used, but no, we didn't use a rack.

I've never made meatloaf before, but have been wondering about lately. Making your own ground beef makes sense; sounds pretty simple and that suits me!

Meatloaf is very simple. You can definitely make it work!

It's never occurred to me to try meatloaf in the crock pot. Meatloaf is my husband's favorite meal, so I think I may have to pin this so I can find it for his birthday in April. Thanks for sharing!

You're welcome! This is honestly not my favorite meatloaf recipe, but there's nothing wrong with it. I think any meatloaf recipe should work. High for 3-4 hours is a little preferable to low for 7-8 because it gets a little too crunchy on the bottom when you use low.

Gonna do it tomorrow!
I have always wanted to try!
BTW - love how you chat about your grandma. I was super close with mine and unfortunately she died before I could write down al of her recipes 🙁

Okay... just have to say I've made this once a week since the beginning of the year. SO good, SO easy. Thanks for sharing your awesome recipe!!

I would use this recipe and mix everything except the ketchup. I would spread that over the top of the meatloaf and cook it.

Someone gave me a recipe for crockpot meatloaf very similar to this but also added potatoes (washed and wrapped in foil) to place around the meatloaf. You will need a large crockpot. I am making it for the second time because the first time around was amazing! The potatoes came out perfect. As did the meatloaf.

That sounds great!

I am trying this recipe today and sounds perfect!!! However am I suppose to add the A1 sauce and ketchup to the meatloaf mix as well or just for the top? Also should I add water to the bottom of my crock pot? This will be my first time making meatloaf ever! Lol
Tara Ziegmont says
Some people reserve the ketchup and A1 to put on top. We put extra on top of ours. As far as water goes, I have never done that.
