Littlest Pet Shop Cozy Care Adoption Center

For the last six months or so, Grace has been really into three of her toys: her Fisher-Price Loving Family Dollhouse, her Littlest Pet Shop Pets, and her Polly Pocket.

We rotate between the three every single day, several times each.

To be honest, this pregnant Momma is not currently enjoying playing on the floor. I do enjoy playing with Grace, however, and I try to split my time between the couch and the floor.

Littlest Pet Shop Cozy Care Adoption Center

We got the Littlest Pet Shop Cozy Care Adoption Center last week, and it immediately became Grace’s most-loved Little Pets item.

Here she is, saying Momma! Put the camera down and PLAY with ME!

Clearly, we have a lot of Little Pets. Birthday Pets, Pet triplets, Pets in Disguises, Farm Pets, Zoo Pets, Happy Meal Pets. Mammals, Reptiles, Amphibians, Birds, Fish. See the chinchilla and the ferret? Those are Grace’s favorites.

You understand that all of this doesn’t come with the Adoption Center, right? The Cozy Care Adoption Center comes with a pink pet carrier, a whole bunch of teeny accessories, and two dogs (a big sister and a little sister, according to Grace; perfect for our expanding family!).

This leads me to the only criticism I have about the Cozy Care Adoption Center. It took me almost an hour to unpack the whole thing. There were a lot of twist-ties, metal things, plastic ties, and other crazy straps holding it together. An hour, a pair of scissors, and a whining 3-year-old jumping up and down, saying, Let’s play, Momma! PLAY with ME! made unpacking a little stressful.

Littlest Pet Shop Cozy Care Adoption CenterOur abundance of Pets might be why this Adoption Center works so well for us. It has spots for a dozen or more pets to sit and play.

Grace has dubbed this playset her Pets’ Hotel. It’s a chic hotel with a grooming center (the broomer), a race track, a veterinary station (I’m going to be a animal doctor when I grow up, Momma! A vet-rarian!), some little rooms with doors, a cafeteria, and more.

Since it arrived, Grace has played with the Cozy Care Adoption Center every single day. It has completely replaced her older Littlest Pets playset (that I picked up at a yard sale). I’m pretty impressed with it, too.

You can read more about the Cozy Care Adoption Center at HasboroToyShop.com or Amazon.

Hasboro provided me with the Littlest Pet Shop Cozy Car Adoption Center in order to complete this review.

Veggie Tales: Sweet Pea Beauty

At the beach

You may imagine that this little girl hears a lot of compliments about her looks. She has blond hair, blue eyes, rosy cheeks, and she looks tan all year long.

Especially because she’s shy, the compliments she hears most often are that she’s cute, adorable, beautiful, and the like.

There’s so much more to my daughter than her physical beauty. She has a keen memory. She can make anyone laugh. She’s reserved and observant. She has a kind spirit and a generous heart.

I don’t think there’s anything wrong with seeing herself as beautiful; I want her to have healthy self esteem. At the same time, I want her to understand that there are so many other (more important) qualities that make her a valuable human being.

This isn’t really conversation I can have with a 3-year-old. She doesn’t get it; she can’t get it. Veggie Tales: Sweet Pea Beauty was the perfect introduction to the idea for her.

Veggie Tales: Sweetpea BeautyWe’ve watched other Veggie Tales movies, and I’ve never been disappointed. This DVD contains two stories, Snoodlerella and Sweetpea Beauty.

Both stories are fairy tale parodies, including details from Sleeping Beauty, Snow White, Cinderella, and many other tales. Together, they teach a valuable lesson about true beauty based on 1 Samuel 16:7, “For the Lord sees not as man sees. Man looks on the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.”

I love that this video is about God’s love for us, rather than about finding Mr. Right and living happily ever after. I think every little girl should see Sweetpea Beauty.

Remember, God made you special, and He loves you very much.

That is my favorite line from the movie; I’ve said it to Grace many times. She’s just beginning to understand that there are many people on Earth with the same name, and that confuses her. We talk about how each person is special, no matter what his or her name. Sweetpea Beauty brought the point home.

I found the same thing with Sweetpea Beauty that I’ve found with other Veggie Tales stories; they are a little long for Grace’s attention span. The next time we watch, I’ll pick either Snoodlerella or Sweetpea Beauty, but not both.

You can watch the trailer for Veggie Tales: Sweetpea Beauty or download a Sweetpea Beauty Guide to Beauty.

I received Veggie Tales: Sweetpea Beauty from the Family Review Network and Veggie Tales in order to write this review.

Seventh Generation Project Laundry Line Challenge: Our Special Laundry Challenge

Grace has exceptionally sensitive skin. When she was less than six months old, she was diagnosed with eczema, and she’s seen a pediatric dermatologist since.

For more than a year, we had to slather her with Vaseline twice a day and after every bath, just to prevent her skin from breaking out.

We couldn’t use any kind of soap or bubbles in the bathtub. We washed Grace’s body and hair with Dove’s Sensitive Skin bar soap just before plucking her out of the tub because her skin couldn’t handle soaking in soap.

Seventh GenerationWe washed Grace’s clothes and bedding in Dreft for years at her dermatologist’s suggestion. Dreft is really expensive, in case you’ve never priced it.

We only eased away from some of these restrictions recently. We started washing Grace’s clothes with the rest of the family’s clothes and didn’t see a flare up of her symptoms. Then we allowed her to take a bubble bath once in a while, no flare ups.

We thought we were in the clear.

But then, when we were on vacation this summer, Grace had a huge flare up. We went back to step one as soon as we noticed it, but we’re still careful about her detergents and soaps and lotions.

I’m happy to report that Seventh Generation’s Natural 2x Concentrated Laundry Detergent has not caused any flare ups in Grace’s skin. I’ve used it on her clothes and her bedding at this point, and she hasn’t had a break out at all.

Seventh Generation via My Blog Spark provided me with Project Laundry Line gift kit and a Flip camera in order to complete this project.

A Day at the Philadelphia Zoo

Grace and I were invited to Blogger Day at the Philadelphia Zoo this week.

Wow. Just wow.

Before we left, Grace and I checked out the Philadelphia Zoo’s website. We looked at pictures of many of the animals, and Grace decided that she was most interested in seeing the hippopotamus, the rhinoceros, and the parrot. I was excited about seeing the gorillas, orangutan, and otters.

Recycling Games at the Philadelphia ZooBeing 18 weeks pregnant, traveling alone with Grace, and knowing the temperature was to creep up into the 90′s with very high humidity, I made a mental plan ahead of time. I knew we wouldn’t be able to see everything, but I wanted to make sure we caught the things we were each most excited to see.

Just inside the gate, we found a Lego station where Grace got a passport envelope. We learned that there would be 9 other Lego stations throughout the zoo where she could play games, learn about the animals, and collect cards for her envelope. Little as she is, Grace was thrilled about the scavenger hunt idea.

Some of the games were above her, but many were not. The photo above shows her sorting recycling at one of the Lego stations.

I would like to tell you about every single animal we saw. Really. Every building and every exhibit knocked our socks off. Porcupines in trees. Monkeys jumping all over the place. An immense alligator snapping turtle. A reticulated python so big it could swallow a chubby pregnant lady. Grace and I hunting in the leaves for blue frogs. A 2-week-old giraffe. A family of sea otters playing with a fish.

It was a superlative zoo experience, absolutely the best zoo I’ve been to since elementary school.

Because I was wrangling Grace by myself, I didn’t get the chance to take many pictures. Here are the ones I took -

One of the two hippos. A friend of mine went to Africa not long ago, and she tried to tell me about the intimidating size and power of the hippos. Even from 50 feet away, I appreciated it. I estimate that this one hippo was bigger than two cows. Huge.

And hairier than I expected.

I was ecstatic to see the sloth on the move. He ambled from one part of the enclosure to another, something I’d never, ever seen before, aside from on the television.

My little monkey could not have been more excited to visit the Philly-adelphia zoo. She was ecstatic about every single exhibit. It was like Where’s Waldo; we couldn’t move on until Grace found the animal in each display.

My Little Monkey

We rode the Swan boats. Basically, they are paddle boats shaped like swans. I didn’t think about that fact before I told Grace we could ride them.

Let’s just say that you should avoid the swan boats if you weigh 9 times more than your companion. If not, you’ll spend all of your time paddling and steering and leaning in an effort to keep the darn boat from tipping over in the bird-poop-filled water.

Having said that, Grace really enjoyed the swan boats, even if I really didn’t.

Grace has always been afraid of animals, and I was delighted that she marched right up to the goats and sheep in the Children’s Zoo and pet them. She also grabbed a brush and brushed them.

Petting the goats at the Philadelphia Zoo

At the Philadelphia Zoo, kids can ride a pony, a draft horse, and a camel (for a small fee). I lobbied for a camel ride, but Grace wanted to ride a pony. She loved the pony, and the lady who led the pony talked to her the whole time.

I love turtles. Love them. There were Galapagos and Aldabra tortoises at the zoo, practically an arm’s reach from us. And they were bigger than any tortoises I’ve ever seen.

The Bear Country section of the Philadelphia Zoo is low key and really cool. Grace thought the polar bear was especially interesting (because we could only see its butt, sitting in the pool of water), and she was impressed that all of the bears were outside.  (I’m not sure why.)

She really liked patting this statue of a momma bear and its cub.

Bear Country at the Philadelphia Zoo

Is this a goofy-looking animal or what? It looked like a combination of horse, zebra, and giraffe, but its sign called it an okapi. It’s the only living relative of a giraffe.

Another fee-based activity is the Rain Forest Carousel. Grace is getting to the age where she adores a merry-go-round, and the fact that this one had rain forest animals instead of horses made so much cooler.

I really like giraffes. This one was cool all by herself, but then her 2-week-old baby came out. It was the baby’s first day on public display, and she was quite shy. She’d be out in view for just a few seconds and then darted back out of sight.

There’s a little motorized train in the center of the zoo. It’s perfect for little ones like Grace, who jumped on all by herself.

Train Ride at the Philadelphia Zoo

Do you see Grace in the peacock car? She grinned and waved every time the train passed me.Train at the Philadelphia Zoo

I tried to take a picture of the gorillas, but they didn’t turn out well. I could’ve sat and watched the gorillas for an hour. The biggest one was lying down looking very much like I feel many days. A smaller one was lying way up high, scratching its butt. The orangutan and her tiny baby were perched way up in a tall, tall tree. And the pink flamingos all stood on one leg, a feat that was totally amazing to Grace. The rhino was playing with a log.

If we lived closer, I would have purchased a zoo membership that day. A membership allows you to visit the zoo any time for free (including free parking). Unfortunately, we’re about two hours away, and I don’t know that we’d get down to visit often enough to make a membership worthwhile.

We received free admission to the zoo and access to the rides in order to write about the Philadelphia Zoo.
