Joe doesn’t especially like burgers with stuff added to them. He prefers plain old ground meat.
I really like burgers that are different from just plain old ground meat.
Joe really likes me.
Joe makes a lot of burgers that are more than just plain old ground meat.
Through the years, each of these has been my favorite for a little while: chili burgers (spicy!), the best hamburgers (almost like a meatloaf but in burger form, so delicious), and Hawaiian burgers (sweet).
I have a new favorite these days, Mexican burgers. We have them whenever someone mentions burgers, and that happens to be at least once a week.
These burgers are different from all the others above. They’re very flavorful, but not as spicy and hot as the chili burgers.
Give them a try; they’re really good.
- 1 pound of ground chuck or chopped steak
- ¼ cup cornmeal
- ½ cup salsa, drained (discard the liquid – It will make your burgers too moist, and then they will fall apart on the grill. We learned this the hard way. If your burger mixture seems too wet, put down aluminum foil on the grill grates before you grill the burgers. That will prevent your supper from falling down through the grates.)
- 2 tablespoons World Harbors Mexican-style Fajita sauce (I suppose you could skip this and not drain the salsa, but this gives the burgers an awesome smoky flavor.)
- ¼ shredded cheddar cheese
- ¼ cup fresh cilantro, coarsely snipped
- 2 cloves garlic, pressed
- ¼ teaspoon oregano
- ½ teaspoon salt
- dash of pepper
- These instructions are really complicated. Try to follow along. I’ll go slowly.
- Mix everything together.
- Form patties.
- Cook.
- Eat.

Oh momma! Throw in some avocado and this sounds like heaven. My husband is a plain burger kind of guy too, but he’s also a fan of Mexican food so I think this will win him over
Thanks for the post!
