I love this post! It made me think back to spending time at my grandma's houses and how comfortable I always felt with them also. I so miss the both of them!

Grandma H didn't have squirrels, but she did have a really noisy clock - tic toc tic toc tic toc all night long. It was a very specific sound and occasionally I will hear a clock that is close and it always takes me back there.

Grandma C had several clocks - including a coo-coo clock and a chimer and I loved hearing them in the morning and watching the bird come out!

Funny, I never realized before now about how much those clocks meant to me.

What a sweet, sweet story, and one we don't see often in blogland.

The pegboard with pots & pans made me laugh, as that's exactly what Julia Childs had in her kitchen. She even traced outlines of the pots & pans on the board, so she'd know where to replace them.

The whole thing is in an exhibition at the Smithsonian American History Museum. It's definitely worth a look!
