When I was a little girl, we lived across the road from Old Grandma.
To visit her, we crossed the dirt road, climbed up a steep bank, and followed the path Grandpa cut for us through a small field. Almost to Grandma’s house, we passed an old pear tree.
Every fall, we’d pick pears right off the ground, and eat them, juice dripping down our arms. I still look forward to pear season eagerly.

This pear crisp recipe is only slightly different from my favorite apple crisp recipe. It’s absolutely delicious.
| My Favorite Pear Crisp |
- 8-10 pears, peeled, cored, and sliced
- 1/2 cup butter, melted
- 1/2 cup pecans or walnuts, chopped
- 1 yellow cake mix
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 1 tablespoon plus 1 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice, divided
- Arrange pear slices in a baking dish. Depending on how many pears you’ve used, anything from a 9×9 to 9×13, round, or oval dish will work.
- Sprinkle 1 teaspoon of spice over pears.
- In a medium bowl, combine butter, nuts, cake mix, sugar, and remaining cinnamon.
- Mix well, until crumbly.
- Sprinkle evenly over the pear slices.
- Bake at 350 for 40 minutes or until crumb is golden brown.
- Serve hot with vanilla ice cream.

All I can say is mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm…….
Is it pears or apples? You reference both.
I used pears this time, but it’s exactly the same as my apple crisp recipe. There might be a typo. I’ll go back and check.
