I’m Glowing (and It’s Not Only Because I’m Pregnant)

I am a skincare dunce, and I pretty much always have been.

When I was in college, I had a crush on a boy who worked at a perfume counter at the Lord & Taylor department store, so I would go in there and buy make-up and skincare products like I belonged.

But really?

I barely used them. A large basket of 14-year-old overpriced cosmetics is sitting in my bathroom closet right now. I should go upstairs and throw them away while I’m thinking about it.

That beautiful boy moved to another town, and I no longer had a reason to visit the make-up counter. I quit visiting; I found something else to squander my dollars on.

I digress.

So what about my face?

I rarely wear make up, so my face doesn’t get especially dirty. I don’t really worry about it.

However.Olay Total Effects

I turned 30 last year.

And then I got pregnant.

My face surprises me with some combination of new splotches, bright red spots, or acne on a daily basis. Today, my entire face burned red as if I was mortified.

I think my skin has skipped the asking nicely phase and is demanding some special attention.

This is sponsored content from BlogHer and Olay.

Not knowing where to begin, I was excited about the opportunity to work with BlogHer on a program featuring Olay’s Total Effects Moisturizer.

The first time that I used the moisturizer, I used it after my morning shower. I thought that’s what I was supposed to do. When I walked into work, I got all sweaty (because I’m 8 months pregnant), and my face felt greasy for a couple of hours.

Actually, I don’t know if my face felt greasy or if it was just not totally bone dry, but either way, I didn’t like the feeling.

That afternoon, I played around with the recommendations at Olay for You, and I learned that faces are supposed to be moisturized at night, too.

Am I the only woman on the planet who didn’t know that?

I started using the Olay Total Effects Moisturizer at night instead of in the morning, and I like it. The moisturizer is light and refreshing on my always hot skin. It makes my face feel fresh and glowy; the way a pregnant woman’s face is supposed to feel (or so I’ve heard). That fresh, glowy feeling lasts through the whole next day even though I use it at night.

I also believe that my skin is smoother since I’ve been using the moisturizer. Wondering how that happened, I looked up the 7 anti-aging benefits that the bottle mentions.

According to Olay.com, they are:

  • Minimizing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles
  • Soothing dry skin with cooling moisturization
  • Fighting dullness for a healthy-looking radiance
  • Gently exfoliating to smooth and even skin’s texture
  • Refining to minimize the appearance of pores
  • With antioxidants, helps protect skin’s surface from free radical damage
  • Hydrating to firm the appearance of skin

So it makes total sense! The moisturizer really is making my skin softer and smoother.

Now, if it could just do something about those bright red spots I’ve been getting…

My skin is very sensitive to the weather conditions. I try to keep it moisturized as much as possible but sometimes it does not really help because of the change in the weather. Right now, because of the cold, my face is chapped.

The state of my skin is very healthy, thanks to my wife. Without her I wouldn’t know how to use anything but chapstick. Now I use sunblock and moisturizer.

right now my skin is very dry…I need to get the humidifier up and running! I have this horrible dry patch on my forehead between my eyes that even straight almond oil won’t clear up!

My skin is pretty dry due to side effects from taking Acutane as a teen. Sometimes my hands peel and my chin and forehead are always flaking…like face dandruff.
