Do Good

Doing something good has been on my mind a lot lately.

A consequence of spending time reading the Bible every day is that the Lord is spending time talking to me. Like, when I’m not reading His Word.

I guess he doesn’t want to interrupt.

He interrupts plenty at other times, though.

I have to be honest with you, Dear Reader. This was not at all what I expected to happen when I commenced this challenge. I’m not sure what I did expect, except to read The Bible.

Anyway, I have been on the lookout for something good I could do, for someone else.

And then, yesterday, I read a Tweet about something I’ve seen a hundred times before – Compassion International.  I read Kristen’s post about her impending trip to Africa, and I thought it was nice.

Just nice. I wasn’t moved. I thought it was nice.Sponsor a child online through Compassion's Christian child sponsorship ministry. Search for a child by age, gender, country, birthday, special needs and more.

About three hours later, I had a light bulb moment.

That’s it! That’s it. That’s what we can do.

I brought it up with Joe, and he was in total agreement that we should sponsor a child. He sat down next to me on the couch, and we set out to find the child.

We searched Compassion International for a little girl, about Grace’s age, with the same birthday as Grace.

We found her.

She’s a beautiful child.

Her name is Evelyn, and she lives in Ghana.

Oh, now I am all teary eyed. That is so cool!!! You should let Kristen know what you did. I am so glad that reading the Bible is having an impact on you. I have to say, the word of God is real and it is life changing. Unlike you and the 90 day book, I have been reading the Bible over this past year. I will be complete at this end of next month. Obviously I am taking a slower route than the 90 day challenge. Good for you.
I can't wait to hear what happens next.

Good for you, Lisa! That's awesome. I can't wait to hear your reflections after finishing. I've tried to do it in a year before, but always failed. It's too long. I can't see the light at the end of the tunnel. This is a bigger daily commitment, but I can see the end.
