We are testing out new traditions for our little family. One of our possibilties is throwing a little birthday party for Jesus on Christmas day. Joe and I thought it would be nice to take a little of the focus off of presents, presents, and more presents.
To make things easier, we decided to pick up a cake mix, a tub of frosting, and some candles at the grocery store.
Standing in the aisle (of a very crowded grocery store twelve hours before our first major snowstorm of the winter), I asked Grace what kind of cake we should get for Baby Jesus.
She thought, brow wrinkled, about it for a long time as hurried shoppers tried to steer around us on both sides.
Chocolate, she said with a grin. Baby Jesus loves chocolate.
“Oh yeah?” I asked.
Yes. Chocolate is He’s favorite. She stressed the word favorite.
“How ’bout that?,” I asked as Joe and I shared a knowing smile.”Who else loves chocolate?”
Me! She pointed to herself with both hands, looking surprised. Chocolate is my favorite, too! Baby Jesus has the same favorite as me!
“What a coincidence!” Joe exclaimed.
I picked up a chocolate fudge cake mix and a container of chocolate fudge frosting and handed it to Grace.
Baby Jesus is going to love He’s chocolate birthday cake, Momma!
I wonder if I can talk Him into loving peanut butter frosting, too.
