alpaca open house

My mom’s friend is an alpaca farmer.

alpaca open house

We visited the farm this past week.

alpaca open house

It was the perfect fall day, bright and sunny, but also crisp and cold and windy.

alpaca open house

Grace loved it.

alpaca open house

She was captivated by the alpacas and the farm.

alpaca open house

We brought two mini alpacas home.

Stop back tomorrow for the rest of the story.

These are great. We just saw alpacas when we went to the National Zoo in Washington DC. My husband is obsessed with them.

I didn’t realize there were alpaca farms to visit! How fun!!!! (Get your coat on, Tara!)

Blueviolet – I know! I am terrible about wearing a coat. I just said to Joe that I need to get one to keep in the car.

Carolyn – I bought the mini alpacas. They had teddy bears and these alpacas and some finger puppets. They were all adorable. I don’t see anything on the farm’s website about them, but I bet if you email them, they’d sell you some. :) The site is http://www.paintedspring.com/. Good luck!

Marie – My mom frequents a local yarn shop, and that’s how she found out about the alpaca farm. If you can find yarn shops, I bet you could find some alpaca farms. Or try googling alpaca farm and your locality.

Sheila – She didn’t mind. Until two months ago, Grace wouldn’t go near any animal at any time. Never. She’d been bitten by a dog; we’d been in the car crash; she was just too afraid. Something clicked for her, though, and she’s become a lot more willing to approach some animals. She’s pet a donkey, some cows, alpacas, a Clydesdale horse, and some small dogs. There are a lot of things that she’s still wary of, but it’s getting better.

I am amazed how incredibly soft the alpaca is – it really is the softest thing I’ve ever touched. We sell them in the store – the lions are my favourites for their manes, but the big bears are most popular! I’ve even sold several to adults – a few times as gifts for cancer patients.

Thanks for sharing about these amazing and adorable animals – glad Grace enjoyed the trip too!
