My mom’s friend is an alpaca farmer.
We visited the farm this past week.
It was the perfect fall day, bright and sunny, but also crisp and cold and windy.
Grace loved it.
She was captivated by the alpacas and the farm.
We brought two mini alpacas home.
Stop back tomorrow for the rest of the story.

These are great. We just saw alpacas when we went to the National Zoo in Washington DC. My husband is obsessed with them.
Happy WW!

I didn’t realize there were alpaca farms to visit! How fun!!!! (Get your coat on, Tara!)
Blueviolet – I know! I am terrible about wearing a coat. I just said to Joe that I need to get one to keep in the car.
How fun! That last photo is especially cute, and reminds me so much of the Fall (which I love).

Awwww the baby is soooo cute. We see alpacas outside of our town on a farm but I’ve never met one.

I’ve never seen an alpaca or at least I don’t remember having seen one. Looks like Grace really enjoyed the visit. Great times!

What fantastic photos. She looks darling among the alpacas. And I want one of the mini alpacas!

Carolyn – I bought the mini alpacas. They had teddy bears and these alpacas and some finger puppets. They were all adorable. I don’t see anything on the farm’s website about them, but I bet if you email them, they’d sell you some.
The site is http://www.paintedspring.com/. Good luck!

Looks like lots of fun! I’ve never seen alpacas up close before. We have a couple farms in our area though.
Thanks for sharing!

oh you must live some place warm!
Tiaras & Tantrums – Um, no. We live in southern Pennsylvania – not as cold as North Dakota but pretty chilly nonetheless. I think it was in the fifties that day.

Oh, I’m so jealous
I want to go meet some Alpacas so bad — I think they look so beautiful but I’ve never met one yet. Hmm, goal for next year
Your photos are just wonderful and it looks like it was a lot of fun!!

Marie – My mom frequents a local yarn shop, and that’s how she found out about the alpaca farm. If you can find yarn shops, I bet you could find some alpaca farms. Or try googling alpaca farm and your locality.

How cute! My kids love seeing the Alpacas on the farms. We thought about having them once upon a time, but decided it would be too much work with what we already have going on. It looks like they had a good time!:)
How fun! They almost don’t look real!

Tara – friends of ours have an alpaca farm too. Our Elizabeth didn’t want to go near them. Grace obviously didn’t have that problem. Looks like a great time.
.-= Sheila´s last blog ..Can you say DAMN!!! =-.
Sheila – She didn’t mind. Until two months ago, Grace wouldn’t go near any animal at any time. Never. She’d been bitten by a dog; we’d been in the car crash; she was just too afraid. Something clicked for her, though, and she’s become a lot more willing to approach some animals. She’s pet a donkey, some cows, alpacas, a Clydesdale horse, and some small dogs. There are a lot of things that she’s still wary of, but it’s getting better.

I’ve got to say, I was at an alpaca yarn shop once and that is the ABSOLUTE SOFTEST stuff I’ve EVER felt.

Sheila – Yes! Those mini alpacas were very soft, and the baby alpaca was the single softest thing I’ve ever touched.

I am amazed how incredibly soft the alpaca is – it really is the softest thing I’ve ever touched. We sell them in the store – the lions are my favourites for their manes, but the big bears are most popular! I’ve even sold several to adults – a few times as gifts for cancer patients.
Thanks for sharing about these amazing and adorable animals – glad Grace enjoyed the trip too!

Hi Tara,
So glad that you and Grace – and the rest of the family came out on that blustery day a few weeks ago. The pictures are great and I welcome anyone who needs more info about alpacas to contact me via our website.
