We’ve found the secret to the best homemade pizza.

Really. I’m not pulling your leg.

Joe and I have been making homemade pizza for a little while now, and we’ve always liked it. The pizza is healthy, and we top it with all sorts of different things.

Except.

Sometimes our pizza is really great, and sometimes it’s just okay.

We figured out why just this week.

It’s the garlic.

We always buy fresh garlic, but sometimes we forget to put it on the crust before the sauce and the toppings. It makes a huge difference in the finished pizza.

Don’t even think about using garlic powder. It’s not even close to the same thing.

To get perfect pizza, press it onto your naked pizza crust, and then use a knife or spreader to smear it around onto the whole crust.

What’s that, Dear Reader? You don’t have a garlic press?

Go buy one. I’m not kidding. You can get one at the grocery store or almost any other store with kitchen stuff. You should not have to pay more than $10. I have a fancy overpriced one from The Pampered Chef, and it was $17, I think.

Top the crust as normal. You can spread spaghetti sauce, pizza sauce, Ranch dressing, barbecue sauce, or whatever you like on top. Toss a little shredded cheese on top of the sauce, then your toppings, and a bunch more cheese. Bake as directed.

You’re done!

Garlic makes EVERYTHING better! I love, love, love it and seriously would put it on just about everything.

Have you all tried roasting the garlic and then spreading it on the crust before the rest? That would be yummy also, but a very different flavoring. Might be a nice mix with a lighter flavor white sauce pizza, no sauce pizza, etc.

I discovered this once when I made “pizza” using garlic pita bread as the crust and my son loved it.

Everyone should know about this. You should enter it in my McLinky blog hop and get a chance to win $100

My dad always adds a little of his SI (secret ingredient) to everything he makes and it does make things taste better. The last time I made pizza crust, I added a little of his SI and it was SO much better! OK, OK, the SI is……………. sugar! Simple, white table sugar, but just a 1/4 teaspoon or so for a pizza crust. I’ll have to try the fresh garlic. We do have a garlic press, but first to find it and then to purchase some fresh garlic. Thanks for the tip!

We make pizza almost every week. I can’t believe I’ve never thought of that! Have you tried making your own crust? It’s not that hard and it is great! We love it. Can’t wait to try the garlic.

I can’t wait to try that! I just figured out the trick to a lighter crust (let it rise ON the pan instead of before rolling it out), so our pizzas are only getting better… :) Thanks!

I make a mean BBQ chicken pizza which I’m planning this weekend. I like this tip! How do you think this would taste with a BBQ pizza? I have a foolproof crust recipe which does not tear and is yummy – as one of your readers mentioned from her fathers recipe, I also use sugar in the crust. Thanks for this tip!
