The Secret to the Best Homemade Pizza » »

Pizza Meatloaf

August 17, 2009

When we have meatloaf at my house, I slather it with A1 sauce. A1 sauce is one of my favorite condiments in the whole world.

No one paid me or sent me any free stuff or in any other way contacted me to talk about A1 sauce. Just saying.

Anyway, I was very hesitant to try a meatloaf that did not play well with A1 sauce.

This is the Pizza Meatloaf from MakingLifeBetter.com. I forgot to take a picture our ours, and all that's left now is a dirty baking dish.

When I saw the recipe for Pizza Meatloaf in the Unilever Consumer Kitchens Twitter stream, I had to click over to the article. The photo in the Pizza Meatloaf recipe looked really good, and it was covered with cheese, so I suggested to Joe that we give it a try.

It was really, really good, even if it didn’t have A1 sauce in it – or smeared all over the top.

Pizza Meatloaf

As usual, this is my family’s version of the original recipe. We made a few changes.
  • 1 envelope Lipton® Recipe Secrets®  Onion Soup Mix
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 pound ground turkey
  • 1-1/2 cups fresh bread crumbs (we cut up some stale bread we had on the counter)
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 small small onion, minced
  • 1 clove garlic
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1 16 oz. package of sliced mushrooms
  • 1 small package of pepperoni, cut in half or quarters
  • 1-2  cups spaghetti sauce (we used our homemade), divided in half
  • 1-2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese, divided in half
  1. Preheat oven to 350°.
  2. Combine all ingredients except 1/2 of spaghetti sauce and 1/2 of cheese in large bowl.
  3. Shape into loaf in 13 x 9-inch baking or roasting pan. Top with remaining 1/2 cup Sauce.
  4. Bake 50 minutes at 350°.
  5. Sprinkle top with remaining 1/2 cup cheese. Bake an additional 10 minutes or until done.
  6. Let stand 10 minutes before serving.

Yum!
