Swinging: The Rest of the Story

July 15, 2009

Remember when I told you about our library’s Go Outdoors and Be Creative program?

Well. It’s five weeks into the program, and we’ve completed 8 of the 30 stations. Sometimes, Grace and I do stations during the day, but we try to wait for Joe to join us on the weekends and during the evenings.

Sometimes, we just go for a walk. We’ve had some in state parks, some on the grounds of large buildings, and some at playgrounds.

Grace likes the playgrounds best.

I would like them better if she’d swing in the baby swing, but she refuses. She’s a big girl now, and she wants everyone to know it.

Who needs a baby swing?
Who needs a baby swing?
Certainly not ME
Certainly not ME!

She says things like “Push me, Daddy.” and “Faster!”

Egads.

I’m not ready for this.

Remember the photo below? It’s from April of this year. Three months ago. I don’t know what happened, unless some kind of grow up quicker fairy stopped by and waved her wand over my little Pumpkin.

Insert my long {sigh} here.

My kids LOVE to swing! I felt like it took them forever to learn how to pump their feet though. My 3 1/2 year old FINALLY got it. So now when we go to the park all we have to do is give them their first push and they are off pumping away.

I think that kids could be happy being at the playground every day, and these simple pleasures are worth re-discovering!

Who needs Disneyworld when you can have a big-girl swing??

Great pics! Reminds me of one of the playgrounds I take my son to a lot. He loves all the wooden nooks and crannies to hide and play in.
