My paternal grandfather's family was poor....lived off of radishes and potatoes from their backyard poor....but my great-grandfather loved to make homemade ice cream. He died when my mom was still very young, but I've heard countless stories of him sitting along the side of the road selling homemade ice cream to a long line of farmers and their families. I think it's a wonderful Pennsylvania tradition, and I love that you're sharing it with Grace!

I made this once before and have forgotten all about it. I'm sending it off right now to all my college students! They are always looking for fun activities and it will be perfect!

A special ed teacher I know makes ice cream using plastic coffee containers, a small inside a large. She places some very clean marbles inside the smaller container with the ice cream ingredients to speed up the process. After taping both lids securely, she takes the kids and container outside and has them play soccer with the container! They love the making as much as the eating!

Heather’s last blog post..Dry Cleaner's Winners
