My Grandma is eighty-one. She’s Greek. She has five children, thirteen children, and more great grandchildren than I’ve met. That doesn’t count my Grandpa’s children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren (they met later in life), nor the countless local kids who call her Grandma.
In her time, my Grandma’s hands have held a lot of babies.
This picture shows the first time that my Grandma held my baby. Grace was five weeks old. I’ll never forget the way that my Grandma held her, patted her, cooed at her, and sang to her. It was easy for Grandma.
She’s had plenty of practice.
