What I Love About Being Married

I am reposting an article that I wrote last year in July. I don’t think I could write a more perfect tribute to marriage and my husband, especially in the days leading up to Valentine’s Day.

Remember how I told you that I never intended to get married or have a child?  Since I wrote that post, I’ve been thinking about how my life would be different if I’d never gotten married.  It’s a scary thought.  I love being married, and here’s what I love most about it.

I’m certain that Joe would say I most love having someone to pick up after me, cook my meals, and take out the trash.  While I do like those things, I’m a capable woman (shhh!  Don’t tell him!).

These things are more important -

  • I love having a partner.  It doesn’t matter what my problem is, I can go to him for support and encouragement.
  • I love being silly.  Whether we’re playing with bubbles, swimming, or tickling each other, laughing together is the best feeling!
  • I love that we complement each other.  I have strengths that benefit Joe (like being assertive), and Joe has strengths that benefit me (like making plans ahead of time).  We’re a perfect team.
  • I love that Joe is always on my side.
  • I love that Joe compliments me all the time.
  • I love going to church together.
  • I love traveling together.
  • When it really comes down to the bottom line, I love spending time together.  Even sitting in the same room with him is nice, whether either of us is speaking or doing something.  Just being together is enough.

I love being married.  I am a lucky woman, and I’m right where I belong.

I also never “wanted” to be married or a mom. In hindsight, what was I thinking?! Isn’t it wonderful?

I was never going to get married or have kids, because I didn’t think there were any good men still out there (I had seen alot of jerks in my career life and what they had done to the women in their lives). So one day I just prayed, “God if you want me to be married, then send the right man to me this year. If you don’t I’ll never ask this of you again, because it’s your will I stay single.” Well, the short end of it, God answered my prayer, and I was married 4 months later, really! God sent me a great man, of the same faith, of the same political, ethical, moral, financial beliefs. I was an instant mother, because he was raising his eight year old son by himself. I didn’t have to deal with his ex-wife, she was in another state far away. My husband had full custody. His son called me mom from the very start. We even had the same car insurance company, so it was easy to get the policy stuff switched easily into a family mutli-car plan. My in-laws are great and so very good to me. I can’t imagine not having him and my step-son in my life. God is good.

I always knew I would grow up, get married and have kids but I still could not agree more with your list. Those are definitely some of the best things about being married.

This was great! Unlike you, I always wanted to be a wife and mom. But much like you, I feel very lucky and very much like I am right where I am supposed to be.

What a sweet post. I got tagged on Facebook for something like this, I think I’ll join in on the challenge and post it on my blog. I’m not sure what can be done, but I have you in my blogroll. I thought it was odd you had not blogged for six days, so I come over. Needless to say you’re blogging but it’s not showing up through the feed.

The other blogs on my blogroll just show the direct link to their last post, but yours has this link-

Not sure what the difference is? But I thought you might want to know about that. hugs!
