Mmm… tomato!

I hate fresh tomatoes. No, maybe hate is the wrong word. Let me start over.
Fresh tomatoes nauseate me. I don’t know what it is about them. I can’t stand the smell of the plants, the fruit, and especially the cut flesh. I gag. It’s not pleasant.
My child, however, is totally smitten with all fresh fruits and vegetables.
Even tomatoes.
Especially tomatoes.
She found this one in the kitchen when her dad was making spaghetti sauce, and proceeded to eat it like an apple.
I was entirely grossed out, even before she smeared tomato slime all over me and the couch.

I do not like tomatoes either, but both my girls LOVE them. My oldest will eat a tomato just like an apple too. Tomatoes gross me out. But if my kids want to eat tomatoes I will let them. Better than a bag of cheese-puffs I suppose!

I struggle with this issue all the time, wanted my kids to eat healthy but yet not being able to stomach some of the stuff myself.

I’m so with you. Just thinking about eating a tomato that way makes me gag. I can eat them in small quantities and like them on the harder side, not all soft and “garden” like.

She’s a cutie though!

How cute!

I couldn’t successfully keep the tomato plants alive this year, but I had two good ones last year and I had to keep Little Prince from eating them all right off the plant!! :)

I love, love, love fresh tomatoes but my mom could only eat them if all the seeds were removed. Hy husband will pick them out of his salad but can eat a whole bowl of salsa by himself! Go figure!

Very cute! Aren’t toddlers fun? I am not a fan of fresh tomatoes, either. The snotty stuff in the middle is awful and they almost never taste good. My oldest daughter, though, will eat tomato slices like they’re cookies. She started eating them as a baby and never quit. She scavenges them off my plate when I pick them off a sandwich or something I’m eating.

Growing up, I hated tomatoes so much that when Mom was canning tomatoes, I would have to leave the house. Couldn’t STAND that smell! I’ll eat tomato in something, but not by itself.

I love tomatoes… although I won’t eat them like apples. One of my favorite things is a toasted tomato sandwich with mayo, salt, pepper, and lettuce on whole wheat… SO good. Especially fresh garden tomatoes.

I can’t imaging tomato slime all over the couch though… blech.
