Joe and I have been making a concerted effort to keep our home cleaner and tidier. Except we aren’t very good at it. And we didn’t know where to start.
If you saw the home I grew up in, you’d understand. I don’t want to make excuses, but I didn’t learn to clean up and keep house in the same way that other people do.
Joe’s not any better at the actual work than I am, so we turned to an expert for some help. For some time, Martha Stewart’s Homekeeping Handbook has been collecting dust on a shelf in our living room. It’s a bohemoth of a book, full of good stuff, but neither of us has really looked at it. Until now.
We’re in the process of making up a schedule of chores, not for Grace, but for us. We’re hoping it will help us keep the place put together and nice.
Do you have a schedule or do you just do what needs to be done? I’m interested to hear how others maintain their homes. Maybe something you suggest will work for us.

We had a cleaning schedule before we moved to this house. It worked so well. I wrote all the chores down on a list and then divided them pretty evenly. We each took one half of them each week. Then the next week we swapped. I had the list posted on the fridge and we even checked them off as we did them. It helped SOOO much. I hope it helps you too. We need to start something similar at this house. But since he is working and I am not, I feel like I should do most of it??? Haven’t got it figured out yet!

I grew up in a home where I had to dust 5 times a week, vacuum three times and do laundry every day. We had a large home and I grew to absolutely hate housecleaning. It has been difficult to clean over the years, because I feel free from the routine of cleaning almost every day. I don’t know which way to grow up is worse. I guess, at least I know what to do when I do get motivated.
